Education

Professional career

After exercising the profession of lawyer for a decade, Amadou Salif Kébé was appointed by the Guinean Bar to join the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). He first held the position of Director of the legal affairs department of the institution, before becoming its Chairman in 2017.

As CENI President, Amadou Salif Kebe played a crucial role in organizing the elections in Guinea. In particular, he oversaw the 2018 municipal elections as well as the 2020 double parliamentary and referendum elections.

Elected CENI President in 2017, Amadou Salif Kébé has benefited from the confidence of 18 out of 19 Commissioners. He succeeded Bakary Fofana, who was the subject of a motion of censure.

At the head of this institution, Amadou Salif Kébé worked hard to clean up the Guinea electoral record and organize quality elections, despite criticism from some critics of the current government.

Death

Unfortunately, Amadou Salif Kébé succeeded to COVID-19 on 17 April 2020, while still serving as CENI chairman. He was admitted to Donka Hospital in Conakry a few days earlier, with his health deteriorating due to diabetes.

Amadou Salif Kebe left a lasting imprint on Guinea's political life as CENI President. Despite the challenges and criticism he faced, he remained committed to ensuring transparent and fair elections in his country. His premature disappearance was a shock to Guinea, which has lost a respected and committed political leader.
