Renowned for his elegance, professionalism, and unwavering loyalty, this outstanding ambassador left a lasting mark on Guinea’s political landscape through his dedication and steadfast commitment.

A Diplomatic Career at the Heart of Power

Originally from Bouramagbèla in Timbo, Mamady Sinkoun Kaba—affectionately nicknamed “Dimama” by those close to him—built a strong reputation as Chief of State Protocol to President Alpha Condé. Appointed to this key position in 2015, he quickly became one of the Guinean president’s most trusted confidants.

With his deep knowledge of diplomatic customs and an extensive international network, he excelled in his role. His exceptional interpersonal skills enabled him to cultivate close relationships with many African heads of state and influential figures around the world.

A Man of Dialogue and Reconciliation

Beyond his official duties, Mamady Sinkoun Kaba was also recognized as a key actor in the release of numerous political prisoners in Guinea. “Sinkoun never saw people as adversaries. Many young detainees regained their freedom thanks to his intervention,” said Alpha Boubacar Bah, a former member of the UFDG, during a memorial symposium held in his honor.

His ability to transcend political divisions and foster social harmony became one of the human qualities that earned him a reputation as a man of dialogue and national reconciliation.

Exile After the 2021 Coup

The September 5, 2021 coup that overthrew President Alpha Condé marked a turning point in Mamady Sinkoun Kaba’s life. Loyal to his mentor until the end, he chose exile, living mainly between Dakar and Paris, refusing to abandon the man he saw as a father figure.

Despite being far from his homeland, he continued to maintain a wide-reaching network of influence. “I travel in the same business class conditions as when I was in protocol. I stay in the same standard hotels as before,” he said during an interview in Dakar in 2023, a testament to the privileged relationships he had built over the years.

During his time in exile, his name appeared on a list of individuals wanted by the Guinean judiciary for alleged “corruption, illicit enrichment, money laundering, forgery and use of forged public documents, embezzlement of public funds, and complicity.” Accusations he firmly and consistently denied.

A Man of Exceptional Human Qualities

The tributes that poured in after his death painted the portrait of a man with extraordinary human qualities. Sékou Koundouno, Head of Strategy and Planning for the FNDC, described him as “a man of rare humanity” who “believed in unity, dialogue, and the power of shared ideas.”
