A new chapter has opened in the history of Kankan with the inauguration of the Lansinè-Williams Library (BLW), an ambitious project led by former Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr. Lancinè Condé. This modern infrastructure, dedicated to students and pupils of the university city, represents a major advancement for education in the region.
The multipurpose complex, equipped with a 52 KVA solar installation ensuring continuous power supply, comprises three distinct segments. The first houses the library proper, with a storage room and two reading rooms, including a youth space, complemented by a media center and offices. The second segment offers 13 study rooms for candidate revisions. Finally, a 300-seat conference space will allow for meetings and generate revenue for the facility's operation.
During his inaugural speech, Dr. Lancinè Condé emphasized the crucial role of the President of the Republic, Army General Mamadi Doumbouya, described as the "inspiration and force behind this project." He also thanked several key actors, notably Mr. Fadi Wazni, CEO of the UMS mining group, whose support was decisive, as well as Mr. Diakité Sansy Kaba, Director of Harmatan Guinea, who helped stock the shelves with books from the opening.
The name "Lansinè-Williams" pays tribute to two emblematic figures of Kankan: Professor Lansinè Kaba and Mr. Williams Sassine. This naming aims to inspire local youth and promote academic excellence. In the same spirit, each study room bears the name of one of the city's recent top high school graduates.
This library, which aims to be innovative, autonomous, and sustainable, also has a bank account open to contributions from benefactors wishing to support its development. It symbolizes a major investment in the future of Guinean youth and illustrates the authorities' willingness to create conditions conducive to academic excellence.
The inauguration of BLW-Kankan thus marks an important step in the development of educational infrastructure in Guinea, offering students and pupils a modern space conducive to study and intellectual growth.
