Education
Born in 1940 near the village of Sangbaralla, Famoudou Konaté has been immersed in the music and percussion traditions of his malinké ethnicity from a very young age. A true prodigy, he was already playing jembé at community festivals at the age of eight and was quickly sought throughout the region as a jembéfola (master of jambé).
