From Humble Beginnings to Business Mogul

Mamadou Saliou Diallo's story began in the bustling streets of Conakry, where he sold hot bread fresh from the local bakeries in 1984. With each passing day, he carefully counted his meager profits, spending his nights at the bakery entrance to ensure he would be served first at dawn.

Although returning to his village would have been perceived as failure and discouragement, he managed to diversify his activities by borrowing a small sum of money from his mother-in-law.

The Pursuit of Entrepreneurial Opportunities

Diallo's entrepreneurial spirit led him to explore various business ventures, excluding any involvement in illegal activities. He briefly sold medicines before relinquishing the endeavor when faced with the complexities of product differentiation.

Importing goods became his next venture, prompting him to embark on numerous trips throughout the subregion, Angola, Singapore, and Jakarta. Through relentless determination and saving, he eventually transitioned from the informal sector to the formal economy.

The Birth of Sonoco Group

In 1992, Mamadou Saliou Diallo established the Guinea Investment Company (SGI), primarily focused on wheat flour importation and logistics. This endeavor laid the foundation for the birth of the Sonoco Group in 2004.

Teaming up with his Moroccan supplier, Les Moulins Lahal, he co-founded Les Moulins d'Afrique (LMA). In March 2014, LMA's state-of-the-art flour milling complex was inaugurated in Conakry's industrial area of Matoto.

This impressive facility consists of two flour mills, capable of producing up to 900 tons of wheat flour per day, along with a packaging unit and animal feed production chain that yields 6,500 tons per month.
