Saturday 2 March will remain a damned date for international Guinean defender Mouctar Diakhaby. During the clash between his Valencia club and Real Madrid, Conakry's native severely injured his right knee following an unfortunate gesture by Aurélien Tchouaméni.
The images of his leg twisting under the weight of the Madrid middle are terrible. Everyone immediately understood the extent of the damage when they saw Diakhaby scream with pain. Even his captain, José Gaya, could not hold back his tears.
According to the initial diagnosis, it would be a luxation of the right knee. The Valence communiqué also talks about many additional exams to pass for the vice captain of the club. But one thing is already certain: Diakhaby's season is already over.
This is a huge blow to the 27-year-old Guinean warrior. Arriving in Valencia in 2018 from Lyon, he had established himself as an indisputable holder in central defense. Solid, athletic and rough, he formed with Gabriel Paulista a very complementary central chariot.
His serious injury is all the more cruel as it occurs at a time when Diakhaby was at the top of his art. He played well against Barcelona and Atlético Madrid. His slaying and his harness made him a very popular player among Valencia's supporters.
On social networks, many messages of support have flowed from fans. His French teammate Tchouaméni also publicly apologized for his rude gesture causing the injury.
For his part, Diakhaby wanted to reassure everyone via Instagram. Although mentally touched, he retains the moral and promises to return even stronger. He can count on the support of his relatives and teammates to go through this delicate period.
This road accident does not put into question the potential of the player trained in Lyon. At only 27 years old, Diakhaby still has good years ahead of him to shine in the League and honour new selections with Guinea. His country will also count on him for the next Africa Cup of Nations in 2025.
But for now, the priority is to treat this leg and take the time necessary for a full recovery. Guinean and Valencian fans wish him a lot of courage during this difficult time. The main thing is to see him quickly on foot and smiling again on a football field!
