Dr. Zalikatou Diallo, former Minister of Citizenship, presented her new book "The Day We Were Cut: Let's Stop Female Genital Mutilation" on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the General Lansana Conté University in Sonfonia.

The book signing ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the representative of the Minister for Women's Promotion, former ministers, members of the Guinean Writers Association, and representatives from the United Nations and UNFPA.

In this personal and committed work, Dr. Diallo shares her own experience of female genital mutilation (FGM) alongside seven other victims' stories. She details the traumatic process and its consequences, including the medical complications she endured during childbirth. The book also provides an overview of the FGM situation in Africa and the Middle East while examining the legal progress made in Guinea.

Professor Daniel Lamah, University Rector, praised the author's commitment: "Dr. Zalikatou Diallo is an exemplary defender of women's rights. Her fight is part of a global struggle for human rights."

Published by Mamou Edition, the book's release comes just days before the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, observed on February 6. It marks a new milestone in Dr. Diallo's commitment to women's rights in Guinea, where she has already made history as the first female Vice President of the National Assembly and served as Minister of Citizenship and National Unity.

Dr. Diallo's work represents a significant contribution to the ongoing fight against FGM, combining personal testimony with comprehensive research to raise awareness about this critical issue affecting women's rights and health in Guinea and beyond.
